Escape from the current political, economic and social mess to the first “Thai Comedy Festival”, to be held between February 27 and March 2 at Thailand Cultural Centre’s Small Hall. Fusing the background of Thai comedy with local ways of life and Buddhism, the festival will tell the evolution of the Thai comedian – from the jum-auad, or traditional joke-tellers, to nightclub and the more-recent film performers. The festival will be divided into four zones – a retro market featuring products and street shows, an exhibition zone featuring the history and hall of fame of local comedic legends, an outside stage zone featuring cultural Thai performances, and a main stage featuring a luk thung musical play presented by famous Thai comedians and artists such as Note Chuen Yim, Mum Chokmok, Chaiya Mitchai and Pornchita na Songkhla.
